We
Are Focused On Learning
Arroyo Pacific Academy provides a rigorous,
meaningful and challenging educational program for all students with the
means to fulfill the Expected Schoolwide Learning Results. We follow the guidelines of the California State Standards and Frameworks
designed to encourage the highest achievement of every student by defining
the knowledge, concepts, and skills that students should acquire at each
grade level.
We
provide
students with a foundation to think clearly on issues that impact the
human person and society. Our college preparatory curriculum addresses
current challenges and opportunities, thus preparing students for future
studies and life decisions as Collaborative Workers, Critical Thinkers,
Lifelong Learners and Responsible Citizens.
College and Career preparation is completed
through an academically rigorous curriculum within the following subject
areas: English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and History, Modern
Languages, Visual and Performing Arts, College and Career Education,
Information Technology, Health and Physical Education, with Advanced
Placement (AP) courses offered in each of the core disciplines.
The strong foundation of our curriculum is
enhanced by a unique four year course of study and our three year
graduation requirement in the Visual and Performing Arts. We are committed
to providing a comprehensive academic program with many courses offered on
multiple levels which includes: Advanced
Placement, College Preparatory and the General
High School curriculum.
The college preparatory courses are designed to
meet the needs of students who want a college preparatory curriculum, can
complete assigned tasks with minimum supervision and have a good level of
aptitude and achievement.
The
general high school courses meet the needs of students who want a college
preparatory curriculum but need reinforcement in specific areas of
achievement. Concept courses provide the student with additional support
in the areas of organization, comprehension, vocabulary, written
expression, and mathematical reasoning. Some students in particular
courses will receive assistance through our Assisted Learning Program.
All
curriculum provides students
an opportunity to explore, to excel, to experience, and to expand their
horizons. Through the courses offered at Arroyo Pacific Academy, students
are challenged to learn to read with understanding, write with clarity,
and listen and speak effectively.
-
We
are committed to small class sizes, ranging from 8 to 15 students per
class. To ensure our low teacher to student ratio 6:1, we limit the
attendance of our academy to 150 students.
-
Our
students complete six 6-week quarters each year which includes a
summer session.
-
Our students are able to concentrate on only three
courses per quarter and are given a daily study hall in order to
maximize their retention of the subject matter.
-
Our
administration works with each student to develop a personalized
educational plan.
-
Each
year, the winter quarter (commencing in January) includes experiential learning, a leadership curriculum, and team building
opportunities.
-
The
Assisted
Learning Program offers assistance to students with mild learning
disabilities thus maintaining a challenging curriculum for
students who desire to overcome, to learn, to grow and to achieve
within a learning environment that is supportive and encouraging.
-
Our
students completing Arroyo Pacific Academy's entire curriculum earn
the same high school degree recognized statewide.
Advanced
Placement Scholar Institute
Arroyo Pacific Academy demonstrates its commitment
to academic excellence by offering Advanced Placement courses taught by
teachers who are well trained in their area. Qualified students who are
willing to accept the challenge of a curriculum that serves as a national
standard for college-level achievement should consider these
courses.
Advanced Placement courses are designed to meet
the needs of students who want an advanced college preparatory curriculum,
have an increased interest in learning, and possess a high level of
responsibility, aptitude, and achievement. Principles and concepts are
explored in greater depth and more independent work is expected of the
student. Advanced
Placement courses are offered during the school day for our students. We
